Prodigy Education, leaders in game-based learning, has joined the Access 4 Learning (A4L) Community, and its special interest group the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC), in a move which reinforces the company’s already stringent commitment to online privacy and security.

A4L is a unique, non-profit collaboration composed of schools, districts, local authorities, states, U.S. and International Ministries of Education, software vendors and consultants. The SDPC is designed to address the day-to-day, real-world multi- faceted issues faced when protecting learner information by setting common expectations between market providers and end users.

As a member of A4L, Prodigy is now part of a global community of policymakers, product and service providers, and customers committed to establishing common expectations in the “connecting and securing effective learning ecosystems” regardless of the platform hosting those applications to give teachers more time to do what they do best: teach.

Membership of the A4L community also further simplifies the process for educators who want to introduce Prodigy’s award-winning game based learning products to their students.

While an official Data Protection Agreement (DPA) is not required by Prodigy for use of its platforms in classrooms, schools and districts which require one can now leverage a variation of the National Data Privacy Agreement developed by A4L and "piggyback" on any existing agreements signed by schools in their state.

Dr. Josh Prieur, Director of Educator Enablement at Prodigy, said: “As a former teacher and administrator, I know how critical it is that educators feel safe and secure with any software they use with their students. We always ensure our products are fully compliant with all relevant laws, while also adopting best practices in online safety and security. This membership of A4L and the SDPC further underscores Prodigy’s commitment to this important area.”

On top of membership of A4L and the SDPC, Prodigy has also received certification from the Internet Keep Safe Coalition© (iKeepSafe), certifying our digital products as compliant with state and federal requirements for handling protected personal information, including the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and California Student Privacy Certification (CSPC).
